Trudy Beard
Decorative Painting
For more than 25 years, Trudy Beard has combined humor with
her love of painting to create a successful teaching and publishing
career.
In the mid 1970s Trudy began her career when she was asked
to teach at "Priscilla's Little Red Tole House," run by Priscilla
Hauser, in Tulsa, OK. After publishing her first book, "Mini's
Grow Up," in 1978, Trudy went on to teach around the country
and at national seminars. Ten books, tons of articles, and
hundreds of classes later, Trudy joined with Plaid to publish
her books, "This Old Chair" and "Second Time Around" in 2000.
Trudy's favorite part of her job is the excitement of being
creative and sharing that creativity with others. "I love
meeting interesting and fun people from all over the country
as I travel to teach and demonstrate my designs and techniques,"
she says. "I have formed many lasting and meaningful friendships
with people who I have met through my artwork and classes."
She teaches her students to paint a variety of subjects,
including landscapes, florals, and still lifes, but her most
fun, Trudy says, is snow people and witches. "They all me
to be outrageous and show my sense of humor in my work. We
giggle while we learn - and there couldn't be anything better
than that!"
Trudy's "outrageousness" has even found its way into her
guest bathroom. "I painted my toilet seat lid to look like
a realistic bird nest, complete with eggs," she says. "I didn't
find it strange when I painted it. I find any surface is fair
game, but it sure is a conversation starter!"
